Reader’s View: CPA helps maintain character of town

A special Town Meeting is being held on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Of importance is an article to increase the Community Preservation Act surcharge from 1 to 3 percent. Money raised in town is matched by funds from the Registry of Deeds. In the past, when we had a 3 percent match, the town gained millions from these matched funds which was used to save open space, restore historic buildings and provide affordable housing.
