Photos by Karen WongThe Art Complex Museum offered an evening tile-making workshop for adults recently. Instructor Carolyn Daly Shedd taught two techniques for decorating the tiles: sgrafitto, which means “to scratch” in Italian, and relief, where artists place sculptural elements on top of the tile. Here Cheryl Spencer’s Celtic-inspired design takes shape as she carves through green paint on the soft, clay tile. See more photos on page 14.
