Lorraine Mary Giumetti, 81


Lorraine Mary (Connolly) Giumetti  of Marshfield, and a  former longtime resident of Duxbury, passed away peacefully Jan. 14, at The Pat Roche House in Hingham at the age of 81. She was born Oct. 19, 1939, in Boston. the daughter of John and Patricia (O’Donovan) Connolly.

Lorraine graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Class of 1957. Following graduation, she was accepted to Boston State College and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Class of 1961. Only one week after graduating, she married Donald Augustus Giumetti and they settled in Needham. They celebrated 59 years of marriage this past June.

 Along the way, they raised three children and also lived in Sandwich before settling in Duxbury in 1978. Lorraine had a passion for education. She belonged to several book clubs and was an avid reader. Lorraine always had classical music playing in the background at home and was an annual member of the Plym outh Philharmonic Orchestra. She traveled the world visiting friends and family. One summer, Lorraine, Donald and their daughter, Susan, drove cross-country, totaling over 9,000 miles. She enjoyed nature, especially flowers, birds and the ocean. Lorraine also never heard a song she couldn’t dance to.

Later in life, Lorraine went back into the workforce as a social worker for elder abuse cases. She also wintered for many years in Sun City Center, Florida. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her three brothers, Gerard, Jack and Paul. Surviving in addition to her husband, Donald, are her sons, Donald and his wife Shannon, of Mattapoisett, Eric and his wife Cattina, of Duxbury; and daughter, Susan and her husband Paul, of Cary, North Carolina.; four grandchildren, Emily Giumetti, James Giumetti, Benjamin Giumetti and Jack Dwyer; one sister, Christina (Connolly) Clemens Houghton of Marshfield; and many nieces and nephews. Also, two grand dogs, Gracie and Furgie.
