Duxbury is fit to be farmed

Town leases out its cranberry bogs and other farms

Holly Morris grew up in Duxbury in the 1950’s and has seen changes over the years.

“There were a lot more farms in town,” she said. “It’s part of our heritage.”

As head of the Community Preservation Committee and a Conservation Commission member, Morris is dedicated to “maintaining farming in this community,” and farming cranberry bogs is part of that effort.

The town started purchasing cranberry bogs in the 1970s, she said, and the Conservation Commission spearheaded the projects.
