Duxbury Art Association Member Show Opening Reception. 6:30-10 p.m. at The Ellison Center for the Arts. Enjoy cocktails, catered hors d’oeuvres, live music, and original artwork by DAA member artists. An auction will directly benefit the Duxbury Art Association. Tickets $40 in advance, $45 at the door. Thursday, September 6

Music Together Demo Class. 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the Duxbury Free Library. For children birth to four with caregiver Come participate in a joyful musical environment through song, dance and rhythmic activities and observe children of mixed ages engaged at their own level. Gatsby on the Bay. Join a 1920s inspired evening of delicious food from A Catered Affair and dancing. The evening kicks-off with casino-style games with some wonderful prizes. Give Blood. The Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Blood Mobile will be at the offices of William Raveis, 53 Railroad Ave. from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Monday, September 10

Beginner’s Ukulele Lesson & Jam. Come at 6:30 p.m. for a beginner’s lesson/ warm up then at 7 p.m. jam to some easy songs depending on skill level of attendees. At the Duxbury Free Library. No registration required. Open to grade four to adult.

It’s International Dot Day. Join us for a storytime featuring Peter Reynolds’ book “The Dot” and a dot-related craft. After our morning storytime we will have dot activities for all ages, including recycled CD crafts, collaborative art, and more. 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. At the Duxbury Free Library.

Wednesday, September 19

Booked for Lunch. Author and actress Marianne Leone reads from her newest memoir “Ma Speaks Up, And a First Generation Daughter Talks Back.” There will be an Italian catered luncheon. Financial Planning in your 50s and 60s. 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Duxbury Free Library. A chartered financial analyst will present important information on retirement, such as how to avoid common retirement pitfalls. There will also be time for questions. Seating is limited to 10 in the Setter Room. Registration is required and begins Sept. 5.

The Journey of Writing and How to Get Published. 7 to 9 p.m. at the Duxbury Free Library. Join Pushcart Prize Outstanding Writer Jessica Keener and Patry Francis, writing blogger and the author of “The Liar’s Diary” as they lead a panel discussion on the journey of writing and how to get published.

Saturday, September 22

Duxbury Beach Triathlon. Starts 8 a.m. at Duxbury Beach. The .35- mile swim in Duxbury Bay, 13- mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run has twists, turns and rolling hills met by beautiful landscapes and screaming fans. Historic clothing gallery talk. Learn about mourning clothing, jewelry and customs with the DRHS Textiles and Clothing Committee. 11 a.m. at the Duxbury Free Library.

Concert at the Art Complex. Pianists Christine and David Hagan perform a free concert at 4 p.m. Seating is limited.

Saturday, October 13

Duxbury Maritime Festival. Food trucks, historical tours, children’s activities and musical performances at the Nathaniel Winsor, Jr. House. Tickets on sale Sept. 4 at duxburyhistory.org.

Friday, October 26

Fourth annual Halloween FunFest. 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Chandler School. There’ll be games, prizes and candy at this free event for children ages toddler up to second grade. Remember to wear a costume!

Tuesday, October 30

Coffee Break Concert Series Presents: Flute Banquet. This concert highlights the sweeping suffusions of color brought to life by the flute. 11 a.m. at the Ellison Center for the Arts, 64 Saint George St. Admission is free

Saturday, November 17

Turkey Trot 5K Road Race. Runner can sign up in person at the Recreation Department Office at 22 Washington St. The fee is $10 and all runners receive a t-shirt. Please bring a non-perishable food item for the local food bank.
