Wednesday, May 30

Mix It Up Kitchen: Cupcake Decorating. 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Duxbury Free Library. A stay alone program for children ages 4 and 5 where measuring, counting and sorting will be practiced through the art of cooking. Two staff members from the Mix It Up Kitchen will share a special spring story with attendees who will then decorate cupcakes. Advance registration is required and may be done through the Mix It Up Kitchen website at www.mixitupkitchen.com under “Classes.”

Armchair Travel to Gurnet Light. Learn about the history of the Gurnet Light as we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of this local landmark. Walter Hempel, Vice President of Fortifications for the lighthouse will discuss the preservation and maintenance to keep the lights shining. Wednesday, May 30, at 10 a.m. at the Duxbury Senior Center.

Saturday, June 2

Duxbury Youth Baseball Friendship 2018 Summer League Tryouts. 8-year-olds following the second year of AA can play in the Friendship League. Tryouts are 10:30 a.m. at the Keene Street Fields. Info at duxburyyouthbaseball.com.

Beginner’s Ukulele Lesson and Jam. 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Duxbury Free Library. No registration required. Open to Grade 4-adult.

Wednesday, June 6

Thriving and Surviving as a Caregiver. Specific techniques and common sense guidance on how to manage the challenging role of being a caregiver. 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Duxbury Senior Center.

Slideshow. The Duxbury Camera Club will conclude its club year with a presentation of field trip and member slideshows, 7 p.m. in the Merry Room at the Duxbury Free Library. Refreshments will be served.

Speak for Thyself Awards. 6-9 p.m. at the Duxbury May Maritime School. The Speak for Thyself Award recognizes exceptional women who make their own choices. Proceeds benefit preservation of the Alden House Historic Site.

Liberty Pole Day at Alden House Historic Site. 18th century reenactors bring will present a day of military drills, tactical events, craft demonstrations and children’s activities. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 105 Alden St. Admission to the event is $10 for adults, free for kids and students. Parking is available off site on Railroad Avenue.

BookBreeze Festival Kick-Off. Novelist Elin Hildebrand is the featured guest at this fundraiser fort the Friends of the Library. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Duxbury Bay Maritime School. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $25 at the library, Westwinds Bookshop, or at www.duxburyfol.org. Admission is $30 at the door.

Author Suzanne Berne. 7-9 p.m. in the Merry Room at the Duxbury Free Library. Berne will talk about her latest book, “The Dogs of Littlefield,” a comedy of manners that explores the unease behind the manicured lawns of suburban America.
