Duxbury Youth Baseball Junior Babe Ruth 2018 Summer All-star tryouts. Players ages 13-15 wishing to play summer baseball should report for tryouts, 5 p.m at Chandler Field. Info at duxburyyouthbaseball.com.

Taking Care of Loved Ones. Learn about the resources and advice available for those who are caring for loved ones. The Visiting Nurses will present answers in this free seminar, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m at the Duxbury Senior Center.

Saturday, May 26

Gurnet Light open house. Join Project Gurnet and Bug Lights for a trip to historic Gurnet Light, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Shuttles leave approximately every 30 minutes, starting at 9 a.m. from the Duxbury Bay Maritime School, 457 Washington St. People with four or all-wheel drive can take themselves out, but parking is limited. A donation of $5 per person (max. $20 per family) is requested. Visit buglight.org for more information.

Duxbury history roundtable. Get your questions about Duxbury history answered, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Duxbury Free Library. Hosted by Monty Healy, author of many articles about Duxbury’s history.

Family Day at the Duxbury Maritime School. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring the kids to the DBMS campus and enjoy lawn games, face painting, the bouncy house and a dunk tank. Admission is free.

DHS Girls tennis car wash and bake sale. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Duxbury High School.

Monday, May 28

Memorial Day Parade. This year’s parade begins 10 a.m. at Standish Cemetery then travels up Depot Street to Mayflower Cemetery for a wreath laying ceremony before returning to First Parish Church for the formal ceremony at 11:15 a.m. This year’s keynote speaker will be Duxbury High School graduate and current army recruiter Sgt. Jake Grawzis. Sgt Grawzis is an Infantry NCO who has served four tours of duty in the Middle East.

Wednesday, May 30

Mix It Up Kitchen: Cupcake Decorating. 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Duxbury Free Library. A stay alone program for children ages 4 and 5 where measuring, counting and sorting will be practiced through the art of cooking. Two staff members from the Mix It Up Kitchen will share a special spring story with attendees who will then decorate cupcakes. Advance registration is required and may be done through the Mix It Up Kitchen website at mixitupkitchen.com under “Classes.”

Armchair Travel to Gurnet Light. Learn about the history of the Gurnet Light as we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of this local landmark. Walter Hempel, Vice President of Fortifications for the lighthouse will discuss the preservation and maintenance to keep the lights shining. Wednesday, May 30 at 10 a.m. at the Duxbury Senior Center.

Saturday, June 2

Duxbury Youth Baseball Friendship 2018 Summer League Tryouts. 8-year-olds following the second year of AA can play in the Friendship League. Tryouts are 10:30 a.m. at the Keene Street Fields. Info at duxburyyouthbaseball.com.

Wednesday, June 6

Camera Club presentation. The Duxbury Camera Club will conclude its club year with a presentation of field trip and member slideshows, 7 p.m. in the Merry Room at the Duxbury Free Library. Refreshments will be served.

Thursday, June 7

Speak for Thyself Awards. 6-9 p.m. at the Duxbury May Maritime School. The Speak for Thyself Award recognizes exceptional women who make their own choices. Tickets are $75 and reservations are required. Tickets may be purchased online at www.alden.org or through the museum. Call 781-934-9092 or email director@alden.org. Proceeds benefit preservation of the Alden House Historic Site.

Sunday, June 9

Liberty Pole Day at Alden House Historic Site. 18th century reenactors bring will present a day of military drills, tactical events, craft demonstrations and children’s activities. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 105 Alden St. Admission to the event is $10 for adults, free for kids and students. Parking is available off site on Railroad Avenue.

Tuesday, June 12

“Gardens by the Sea.” Join the the CGCD for a tour of six unique gardens from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Box lunch catered by the Foodsmith at DBMS provided from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. CGCD Members, $20/Non-Members $32. Advance purchase only by June 6 online at communitygardenclubofduxbury.org. Rain date Wednesday, June 13. Proceeds benefit town beautification and scholarships.

Friday, June 15

Pilgrim Festival Singers present “Magical Musicals.” 7:30 p.m., at Pilgrim Church, 404 Washington St. A program of favorite musicals with magical themes, “Magical Musicals” will captivate listeners with timeless stories set to music that enthralls. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the door, or online at www.pilgrimfestivalchorus.org.

Wednesday, June 20

Author Eileen McNamara. 1-3 p.m. at the Duxbury Senior Center. McNamara will be speaking about her book “Eunice, The Kennedy Who Changed the World.” This free event is part of the Duxbury Free Library’s BookBreeze Summer Author Series in partnership with Westwinds Bookshop.
