Wednesday, May 2

Read to a dog: Owen. The helping hound reading tutor will return to listen to children read on Wednesday, May 2 from 4-5 p.m. at the Duxbury Free Library. Beginning and independent readers may be signed up for a 15-minute time slot between 4 and 4:45 p.m. Attendee should bring reading material. Mosaic workshop. With Sally Dean Mello at the Art Complex Museum 1-3 p.m. in the museum’s Alden Studio. The workshop is free but pre-registration is required at sally@artcomplex.org or by calling 781- 934-6634, ext. 10.

Saturday, May 5

Duxbury Junior Legion baseball tryouts. Duxbury Junior Legion (U17) tryouts take place at 4 p.m. May 5-6 at the Chandler/ Murphy field. Participants must attend at least one tryout to be eligible. For more information, visit duxburyyouthbaseball.com.

Sunday, May 6

Cabaret Night. The students of DHS Thespian Troupe 355 present a cabaret filled with favorite songs from Broadway shows through the years. 1-4 p.m. at the Duxbury Senior Center. Visit Duxburydrama.com for tickets.

Early New England Gardens talk. Join master gardener Jeanette MacKenzie for “Edibles, Remedies, and Pretties in Colonial Gardens,” a talk on kitchen gardens of early New England, 2-3 p.m. at the Alden House Historic Site, 105 Alden St. Admission: $5. For more information, visit alden.org.

Duxbury Student Recital. South Shore Conservatory Youth Recital, 2-3 p.m. at the Ellison Center for the Arts, 64 Saint George St.

Find Your Greatness. Speaker Dr. Allen Hunt and singer-songwriter George Lower from Dynamic Catholic lead this event. This is inter-denominational. Youth orchestra spring concert. South Shore Conservatory Youth Orchestra presents its annual spring concert at 3 p.m. at the Duxbury Performing Arts Center, 73 Alden St. Concert includes works by Arensky, Berlioz, Brahms, Mozart and more. Admission is free for students. Adult tickets are $10, available at the door.

Pianist Tom Hansen. Performs music by Emmanuel Chabrier, Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann. 4 p.m. The Art Complex Museum. Admission is free.

“Clay Night Out for Adults.” At the Art Complex Museum with Artist Carolyn Daly Shedd from 7 until 9 p.m. The workshop will focus on fun with coils and the many creative projects that can be constructed using them. Madeline Ali, Duxbury Rural and Historical Society textiles and clothing committee, will discuss Abby Taylor Litchfield’s 1871 three-piece green silk wedding outfit worn on June 25, 1871 at her wedding to Lafayette Litchfield. Shell Reflections. Paintings by artist and museum volunteer Kathleen Pike will be shown at the Art Complex Museum’s Alden Gallery, 1-4 p.m.

Duxbury Oyster Festival. A fundraiser for the Duxbury Education Foundation and the Duxbury Student Union, featuring oysters and live music from band, The Waves, and the DSU coffee house musicians. The Winsor House Inn, 3-7 p.m. $100 per person.
