Wednesday, June 7

Duxbury Camera Club meeting. The club’s final meeting of the season is at 7 p.m. in Duxbury Free Library, Merry Room. The program will be a slide show of images from this year’s field trips. Refreshments will be served.

Thursday, June 8

DAA’s Snug Harbor Stroll. The Duxbury Art Association is hosting a kick-off event for its 100th anniversary. Stop by the DAA’s Snug Harbor Stroll Thursday June 8 from 5-9 p.m. for oysters, wine tasting, birthday treats, a plein air painting demo and a drawing for a framed photograph by Kristin Emerson, owner of Snug Harbor Gallery. Stroll admission is free. Raffle tickets cost $10 and can be purchased in advance by calling or stopping by the Snug Harbor Gallery, 449 Washington St.

Speak for Thyself Award dinner. The Alden Kindred of America, Inc. will honor three Massachusetts women at this year’s Speak for Thyself Award dinner on Thursday, June 8, from 6-9 p.m. at the Duxbury Bay Maritime School. The award recognizes exceptional women who, in the spirit of Mayflower Pilgrim Priscilla Mullins Alden, make their own choices. Tickets are $75. Reservations are required. Proceeds benefit preservation of the Alden House Historic Site on Alden Street.

Spring Festival of Plays. At the Black Box Theater, Duxbury Middle/ High School, 71 Alden St. Spring Fest is DHS Thespian Troupe 355’s traditional intra-troupe competition with three plays featuring students from all high school grades, who are directed by faculty and upper-class students. The plays are “Childhood,” “Competition Piece” and “Tracks.” At 7 p.m. Second performance is Saturday, June 10.

One-day woodcut workshop. White Line Woodcut at The Art Complex Museum, 189 Alden St., is a printmaking technique where each print is created by painting shapes that have been incised into a pine board. Instructors Lisa Houck and Amy McGregor Radin will teach students to carve a linear design into a pine board and print it using watercolors. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Bring a simple line drawing to the workshop (5”x7” or 8”x10” recommended.) Ballroom dancing. The South Shore Dancers host a ballroom dance from 7:30-11 p.m. at Cushing Memorial Hall, 673 Main St. (Rte. 123), Norwell. Field of Dreams theme. Suggested dress: Casual or baseball. Rumba lesson, 7:30 p.m. Social ballroom dancing, 8-11 p.m., DJ Lestyn Gilmore. Couples, singles welcome. $12 per person. Families First 5K. Miramar Retreat Center invites runners and walkers of all ages to participate in the inaugural Families First 5K along picturesque Duxbury Bay at 8 a.m. Online registration open until June 9 at southshorerace.com. Cow Pie Bingo. 9-11 a.m. Sponsored by Alden PTA. At field in front of Alden School. “Acorn” the cow from the O’Neill farm may or may not make a deposit on a square drawn on a grid in front of the school. Tickets are $10 each or $24 for three. Purchase at aldenpta.org. First prize $1,000. Second prize $500.

Monday, June 12

Author Elin Hilderbrand presents. Join the Friends of the Duxbury Free Library at 7 p.m. in the Duxbury High School’s Presentation Hall for an evening with prolific writer Elin Hilderbrand, whose newest book, “The Identicals,” will be released on June 13. Tickets $20, available through the library website.

SShAGLY meeting. SShAGLY (South Shore Alliance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Youth), a meeting and support group for youth ages 14-22, will meet at 7 p.m. at First Parish Church Duxbury, 842 Tremont St. For more information, email sshagly@gmail.com.

Flag Day Luncheon. The Duxbury Republican Town Committee invites the public to its annual Flag Day luncheon at noon at the Chestnut Street Grille, 8 Chestnut St. This year’s luncheon is in honor of the late Mike Tenney. His wife Lee Tenney is the guest of honor. RSVP and reserve your meal by June 10. Lobster roll- $30 per person; grilled chicken sandwich - $25 per person. Meal includes salad, sides and strawberry shortcake.

Thursday, June 15

Stop Motion Workshop. This two-week class at the Duxbury Free Library at 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Child Program room will teach students in grades three and up how to produce a short video using Legos and other inanimate objects in iStopmotion. All supplies included. Registration is required and begins June 1 at 10 a.m. online, in person or by phone.

Friday, June 16

Reading Garden dedication. The public is invited to the Duxbury Free Library’s new Reading Garden entrance at 10 a.m. for a ribboncutting dedication and celebration. Festivities include music, a meet-the-artists reception and light refreshments.

Saturday, June 17

Walking Tour of Millbrook with town historian. Town Historian, Tony Kelso will feature the Millbrook area on his always-popular 90-minute walking tour. Two tours at 2 and 4 p.m. Presented by the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society. Reservations are required and tickets are limited. $10 DRHS members; $15 nonmembers. Parking and gathering at the Drew Archival Library, 147 St. George St.

Tuesday, June 20

Mama Steph Concert. 10:30-11 a.m. in the Duxbury Free Library’s Merry Room. Everyone’s favorite singer kicks off summer for preschoolers and older with an adult. Registration is needed for both attending adult and children. Registration begins Tuesday, June 6 at 10 a.m. through the library online calendar, by calling 781-934-2721, ext. 5632, or in person at the children’s help desk.

National Cancer Survivors Day. Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital- Plymouth (BID-Plymouth) will celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day from 4-7 p.m. at the Obery Street entrance, South Parking Lot, under a tent. Jordan Rich will be master of ceremonies. Special guest is Joe Andruzzi, former New England Patriots offensive guard, three-time Super Bowl champion and cancer survivor. Food, raffles, door prizes, chair massages and musical entertainment by the band Despite Dwight, featuring Jordan Hospital Club Cancer Center Medical Director Matt Koomey, MD, on drums. Summer Soulstice Yoga Retreat. The Duxbury Senior Center Summer Soulstice Yoga Retreat is 1-3 p.m. at the center. It’s led by Emma Boyle of Dragonfly Yoga and Kim O’Brien, senior center yoga instructor. The retreat includes introduction to chakras, Kindness Rocks Project, iced teas and readings in the garden and labyrinth, chair yoga and meditation. Corner Stone Lodge monthly breakfast buffet. On the first Sunday of every month from 8-11a.m. Corner Stone Masonic Lodge hosts its all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast with made-to-order omelets, eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, home fried potatoes, bacon, sausage, corned beef hash, French toast, pancakes, fresh fruit, sweet breads and other home made goodies. $8 adults; $7 seniors; $5 children. 585 Washington St.

Sustainable Duxbury. Sustainable Duxbury meets the first Wednesday of each month at the senior center at 7:30 p.m.

Loss support group. Meets the first Monday of the month from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Duxbury Senior Center with Ellen Gillis, LICSW. 781-934- 5774, ext. 5731.

Caregiver discussion group. Meets the first Tuesday of every month from 2-3 p.m. at the Duxbury Senior Center.
